Happy Eid! Your child is coming home with a treat from a friend in Mrs. G's class. They were instructed to wait until they were home to open it.
With only a day and a half left of school we will be sending a lot of stuff home tomorrow! Please send a large bag to school to help your child carry their belongings (Grocery or shopping bag or reusable bag).
Tomorrow afternoon we will be saying Farewell to our Grade 6 Students! The assembly is at 1pm.
On Wednesday we will have our Farewell Assembly at 8:30am. We will say good bye to some staff that are leaving and students too!

We're going on a Lion Hunt!
Tomorrow we head to the Zoo! We go Rain or Shine (please shine....please!!!) We will leave as soon as the bus arrives, so please don't be late! Send a good lunch and a water bottle that can be refilled. Students will not be allowed to make any purchases while at the Zoo.
If you Volunteered we are so grateful and we will see you at 8:40am! We need you to sign a form for us and then we will be set!
Yesterday was National Aboriginal Day! We watched some videos about it and then today we created our own Dream Catchers! Your child should have brought theirs home today.
Continue to work on Raz Kids and Mathletics with your child. Doing this during the Summer months will be critical. Students usually lose some of their skills over the summer, but if you keep up with reading and math it will be a benefit to your child's progress in Grade 2.
Our farewell assembly will be on Wednesday, June 28th at 8:30am! We hope to see you there!

We hope you all had a wonderful weekend and were able to enjoy the beautiful weather.
This morning we talked about the Summer Solstice. It is officially summer tomorrow night at 10:24pm here in Calgary! We are SO excited for Summer. We learned that today, tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday all have 16 hours and 33 minutes of daylight. They are the longest 4 days of the year! Enjoy them...cause then the days get shorter!!!
Today we worked on Math Word Problems!!!! Students are getting really good at finding the words that tell us if we need to add or subtract. Continue to work on addition and subtraction at home. They should be able to do most facts up to 20.
We wrote letters to our Grade 2 Teachers. We don't know who they are yet, but it will show their new teacher their writing and printing skills.
This afternoon we finished off the Bee Movie. Ask your child what would happen if the bees stopped doing their job.
Tomorrow is the Pillar of Care Assembly at 1pm. Please look for a note in your child's bag if they are receiving an award. You may have also received an email regarding it.

Your child has likely brought home their Calgary Zoo field trip by now. Please sign all the forms and return it with the $10 payment by next Monday, June 19th.
We have heard from a few parents that they are able to Volunteer with us on Friday, June 23rd. We appreciate all our Volunteers so much. We are still in need of a couple more volunteers per class. If you have your security clearance done and it is within the 5 years, please think about joining us for a fun filled day at the Calgary Zoo!
Today we worked on addition and subtraction word problems! Word Problems are the same as adding and subtraction, but we are learning to pull out the information we need to complete the question.
This week is our LAST Library week. All books need to be returned to the Library so an inventory can be done over the last couple weeks of school! (I can't believe it's almost the end of Grade 1)
If you have Volunteered in our classroom, you should have received an invitation (sorry, Mrs. Nelson's went out today). The Volunteer Tea has been on the June calendar and is set for this Friday at 9am. We would love to celebrate our fabulous Volunteers in Grade 1. This counts if you haven't yet volunteered, but know you are coming to the Zoo with us.

Yesterday, both Mrs. G and Mrs. Nelson were absent. They were at a fabulous conference called, Unseen Hurts: Understanding Mental Health Issues in School. It was a great conference and we learned so much!
We are so glad we went, but unfortunately we heard that our classes were quite distracted and off tasks for the substitute teachers. We had a discussion with students the day before, so that they knew what was happening and who was going to be here with them. Please talk with your child about the behaviours that may have been present yesterday and how they can show more kindness and respect for all teachers, even substitutes.
We have been working hard learning strategies for addition and subtraction. I hope you are all able to find time to go on Mathletics, either on the computer or on an iPad or tablet. It is such a fun way for kids to continue their math skills.

Science is Fun!
This afternoon we learned about our tongue and the different tastes we have. We have bitter, sour, salty, sweet and umami. Then we tasted something from each category except umami. We had salt, icing sugar, cinnamon, flour and lemon juice. It was great to see their faces of joy or pure disgust or sourness! They had a wonderful time!
Next week there is a Parent Council Meeting on Tuesday at 6pm. All parents are welcome and encouraged to come.
We hope you have a beautiful weekend and enjoy the sunshine!

We have had a whirlwind of a week!!!
Monday was Sports Day and we had SO MUCH FUN!!!!
We also said Good-bye to Ms. Hayes at a morning assembly. We will miss her, but wish her well and Penbrooke Meadows School as the new Principal.
Tuesday, we did some writing about Sports Day and that continued into today. We are working really hard at finger spacing and making sure we put periods at the end of each sentence.
Today we had a Cultural Wheel Presentation and we learned 2 new dances. One of the dances we were in a circle with our class and we walked in a circle holding hands. The other dance was a jig! We basically just hopped around. Boy were our hearts beating fast. Then this afternoon we had a whole school assembly and we watched other classes do European Line Dancing and Square Dancing, then we all did the Jig together. It was super cool. The guy told us an awesome story that involved a medicine wheel, just like the one we made with Mrs. Stables.
Scholastic Orders are due this Friday, June 2nd. If you would like some Summer Reading books it would be a great time to get some.
Practice Addition and Subtraction up to 20. Remember to use Mathletics!!!!

On Monday May 29th from 10:45 - 11:30 a.m. Beddington Heights would like to celebrate Ms. Karon Hayes’ contributions to Beddington. Come to the school gym to celebrate as students, teachers and parents gather together to say thank you to Mrs. Hayes.
Monday is also Sports Day! If it is fairly nice, we will be going ahead with Sports day after lunch, IF the weather is cold or rainy we will postpone to June 2nd, but we will let you know. Come prepared for it on Monday!
This afternoon we talked about Ramadan. It is a Muslim holiday and lasts for 29 or 30 days. We will be talking with the kids more about it over the next month. We are going to make a Good Deed calendar and talk about the good deed for the day each morning. We hope this will encourage a lot of great kindness and good deeds!
This afternoon, we practiced braille by cluing on beans to a secret message and then we had to figure out what the message was. Your child should have brought theirs home today. It was so cool!

We hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather over the long weekend! It was so nice to have such nice weather!
Today we finished our book, Charlotte's Web! We started to watch the movie too. We will watch a little bit of the movie each day until it is over. The kids are loving it so far.
Tomorrow we will have an Apple-A-Day Presentation in our classroom put on by students from the University of Calgary. We are excited to hear what they have to teach us.
Tomorrow we also have a Calgary Public Library Reading Presentation to learn more about their Summer Reading Programs.
Tomorrow evening is the Kindergarten and Div 2 (Gr 4, 5, 6) Spring Concert. We will be watching their dress rehearsal in the afternoon as a whole school. Our Spring Concert dress rehearsal will be on Thursday May 25th. Our evening performance will start that same day at 6:30 and doors will open at 6pm. We hope you will all be able to make it!
June Scholastic Orders are due June 2nd. This will ensure that we are able to order and have your order shipped before school is over. We can hardly believe that it is almost June!
Tomorrow students will be eating outside, so they will be outside the whole lunch time. Students should wear sunscreen, but no one should share sunscreen at school. Thank you!

Happy Long Weekend
We hope you have a fantastic extra long weekend and are able to enjoy some beautiful weather! Fingers crossed the weather stays nice. ☀
This week during Math and Daily 5 Centres the students unfortunately left some areas a mess. Below is a picture of the headphone area. These headphones are owned by students in our classes. We have another bin where previously loved headphones are kept in bags. You can tell by the picture that these headphones are not being taken care of very well.
Each drawer can easily fit 2 or 3 sets of headphones. 1 pair does live on top of the cart as they are too big. If you could please discuss with your child how important it is to properly put away and care for the headphones and other tools we use in the classroom, that would be fantastic. We have had numerous conversations regarding this, but it still does not seem to help.
Thank you for your time and understanding in helping this situation.
Reminders -
22nd - No School - Happy Victoria Day
25th - Spring Concert for Grade 1 - dress rehearsal during the day.

Today in Science, we continued to learn about Braille. We shaded in the circles for how our name would be written in braille and then we glued split-peas onto the shaded circles. Now if someone who was blind touched our paper, they would be able to read our name. We have so more braille activities coming this week.
Tomorrow is the last day to hand in Hot Lunch forms. This hot lunch is on Monday, May 29th. That is our scheduled Sports Day. Students will also be having a freezie that day. Please send back your forms with money so your child can have a burger on Sports day.
We are continuing to work hard for our Spring Concert next week. We hope you all will be able to come and join us for the Div1 Concert on Thursday evening.

Spring Carnival TONIGHT!!!!
Parent Council Carnival tonight from 6-8pm! Hope to see you there!
On Tuesday we had a Calgary Firefighter come in and do a presentation. It was great! We watched a video that we would like to share with you also. It is a great conversation starter about why we should do certain things to keep us safe from a fire. Your child should have brought home a booklet. They can keep it at home and don't need to bring it back to school.

Yesterday, we used Unifex cubes to work on adding! We showed different ways to add up to the same number. (eg. 1+6=7, 2+5=7, 3+4=7, etc)
We continued to read Charlotte's Web and got through a couple chapters of that.
We worked on an Art Project with our Grade 5 buddies in the afternoon.
In Math Centres most of us have been able to play with Mathletics. We sent home your child's card so that they are able to login on a computer or tablet at home. I believe the app is free to purchase.
Tomorrow we have our Teacher's Pet in-class field trip to build birdhouses. We still have a few students who have yet to bring in their permission form and money. Please do so as soon as possible so your child can participate with us.
We will have another field trip on June 23rd to the Zoo and the cost for that will be $10 as well. If you need to send that in now we will keep track for you. We also need to know if we have enough Volunteers for the Zoo field trip as well. Please let us know as soon as possible. We will be sending permission forms home by the end of May.

Today we learned more about the RULER!!! We were able to measure pictures and put their proper measurement beside each picture. We know that a ruler is STANDARD measurement.
We continued our Mental Health World and Writing from Friday. We wrote about what we can do if we or others around us are sad, mad, happy or excited. There were a lot of great sentences. Some students said they could take 10 deep breaths if they were upset, or that they are excited when it is a special day. Great Job Grade 1's!!!
We also did some Blindfold Science!!!! With a partner one of us was blindfolded and had to draw what our partner told us on a whiteboard. After a few turns we would switch so everyone had a turn. Ask your child to show you how this is done at home.
We have decided that our ZOO field trip will be on Friday, June 23rd. If you are able to take the day off of work and have your security clearance and volunteer forms all ready to go we would love to have you come with us. We will need to know by JUNE 9TH if you are able to volunteer. At that point we will make a decision on whether or not we are able to make this field trip happen. Thank you for your understanding!
With the warm weather comes flip flops and sandals. Please ensure your child has runners for outdoor PE. This keeps your child safe and able to participate.

Happy Arbour Day & Hats on for Mental Health
Students came home today with a spruce or pine tree. Each Grade 1 student across Alberta was given a sapling to plant at home. All instructions are on the plastic bag that the tree is in. All of our students were fairly excited to plant a tree that will actually grow at home. We hope you find joy in planting this tree with your child. When you plant it, please take a picture and email your child's teacher. We would love to share those pictures in the classroom. Mrs. Nelson - milnelson@cbe.ab.ca and Mrs. Grunert - algrunert@cbe.ab.ca
TOMORROW we are going to wear Hats for Mental Health. Your child can wear any hat they would like, however, if it proves to be a distraction to their learning, they will be asked to leave it in the coatroom during classroom time.
We discussed different feelings in conjunction for Mental Health.
If your child has yet to return their Teacher's Pet in-class field trip form a new one was sent home today. We have yet to receive more volunteers for this activity to happen.
Volunteers = 1 for both classes
Please continue to bring in used books for the Book Drive
Home Reading- please ensure that your child is reading each night. It provides such rich and successful reading time between you and your child. Have your child read to you, read together as a family, read to your child. Anything, just keep reading! Ask your child questions about what they have read in the story. This helps your child's comprehension flourish.

Pizza Lunch tomorrow! Please still send recess snacks for your child.
Today we exchanged our Library Books for new ones. Some of us received a notice from the Librarian...it is bright orange! Please take a look.
A Spelling Bee is happening on Friday for the Grade 1 students. Some students brought home a permission form. Students do not have to participate in the Spelling Bee, but they are welcome to watch. They must remain quiet while the Spelling Bee is going on. If you would like your child to participate and did not receive a notice please let their teacher know.

We talked a lot about Measurement during Math and then explored our classroom using only our hands and feet as our non-standard unit of measurement. Ask your child what they measured today.
This afternoon we observed our lima or black bean plants. Unfortunately, a lot of our plants are not growing. We discussed how Science can sometimes be tricky (and gardening too). Mrs. Nelson is going to put a black bean in everyone's cub because all of those beans grew. We will continue to observe our plants over the next few weeks.

Today was a Funny Day! We had a different schedule because both Mrs. Nelson and Mrs. G were being observed by other teachers and then they went to observe other teachers! The teachers still need to learn as well.
We had Science first thing this morning and discussed the importance of safety to our senses. We discussed what would happen if we didn't have one of our senses. Our HOMEWORK is to find out how does our sense of SMELL keep us safe!!! We look forward to some great answers tomorrow!
After recess we got to design our own desk and chair for Grade 2. Mrs. G let us be as creative as we wanted to be. Some of us chose heart or star shaped desks. Some of us have taller desks so we can stand and some of us even have super short desks so we can sit on the ground. We designed our chairs also. We will continue to work on this project over the next few days.

This morning we had our Pillars of Care Assembly. Congratulations to all the students who received an award! Keep up the great Caring!
We had a quick snack and movement break and then we learned about Non-Standard Measurement for Math. We were able to use erasers, pencils, wooden sticks, clothespins or popsicle sticks to measure a variety of objects in the classroom.
Non- Standard Measurement means - units not typically used (so we wouldn't use a ruler or measuring tape at all)
Yesterday we talked about how to save the Great Barrier Reef and to Save the Bees as well. Here is a link to get free wildflowers seeds. Plant the wildflowers and lets help save the bees!

We hope you have a fantastic weekend! See you on Monday (psst, it's the last week of April!!! We can't believe this school year is just zipping by)

Popcorn sales start on Monday please! Sorry about that miscommunication! We got it worked out for today though.
*** Early Dismissal tomorrow! Pillars of Care assembly tomorrow! 8:15am ***
We looked at our seeds in their paper towels and most of them had grown a sprout! We then planted those seeds into soil. We spritzed them with some water and put them in sunlight....so now we just watch them grow!!!!
We also discussed about the largest living organism. It is the Great Barrier Reef! It is located in Northern Australia. It is 2300km long. That's just like driving from Vancouver, BC to Winnipeg, MB. WOAH!!!! We showed this to the kids on a map of Canada!
Then we used bright watercolour paint and painted a piece of watercolour paper. Then we sprinkled salt all over it. This helps it to look like a coral reef. We are making our own reef. We compared what the Great Barrier Reef looked like long ago and what it looks like now! Ask your child about the difference.
Then we watched a Magic School Bus video all about Reefs!!!
At the end of the day we went and cleaned up the schoolyard! We wore a disposable glove and picked up a lot of garbage! We want to take care of our earth! It's Earth Day on Saturday! Let's all take care of the earth together!

We didn't take a look at our flowers today! We will for sure look at them tomorrow. Instead, we did a Sound Experiment. We each took a plastic cup and we were given 1 elastic band. Some elastics were too big, some were thick and some were skinny. We discovered that if the elastic band is different, but the cup is the same, the sound they make are all different. We also discovered if we use the same elastic band but a different object the sound is different as well. We love learning about sound.
Tomorrow we will take a look at our flowers and seeds and hopefully do some planting if our seeds have sprouted.
This afternoon we had a practice lockdown. It happened while we were with our buddies reading together. Almost everyone did a fantastic job. Talk with your child about the importance of remaining quiet and still during lockdowns. We will review this information tomorrow morning.

This morning for Science, Ms. Chen taught us about flowers and we discussed that in order for a flower to get water it sucks it up through the stem.
We put different food colours in 3 jars and we made predictions about what it will look like tomorrow. We were to colour one of the jars of flowers to show our prediction. Some students thought the flowers would look green, or blue or red tomorrow. Depending on the colour of water. Some students however, thought the flower petals would be yellow, or brown or rainbow.
Can't wait to see what happens!!!
We discussed a couple times today about our Pillars of Care, specifically Care for Learning and Care for Others. We know how to show these two Pillars and we are continuing to work on them. We will discuss the other two later this week.
Reminders
April
21st - Pillars of Care Assembly 8:15am

Safeway!!!!
We had a great trip to Safeway! The walk was lovely, no rain, and the tour was awesome! We got to go behind the scenes of a lot of the departments. We even got to see the Meat Cutter cut some really big steaks!
We brought home a banana, juice box, fruit leather and a cookie. (most kids ate or drank these along the way). We tried a piece of turkey or ham from the deli department, we had a vanilla bean or ice tea drink from Starbucks (no caffeine in anything) and the next time you take your child into Safeway you can ask for a Helium balloon because they did a tour with Kim. There is a helium shortage in Calgary right now so their delivery didn't come. Hospitals need the helium more than balloons do.
No home folders or home reading came home tonight...we barely made it back on time to end the day!
We learned a bit about plants today and we made a prediction about what we think is inside our lima beans. We are soaking a few in water tonight and we will see what they look like tomorrow. Next week we will probably plant something!

Volunteer
An email was sent home today about needing Volunteers for our Field Trip tomorrow. Having Volunteers with a Security Clearance who have submitted all their forms to the school office is very important for us and provides many opportunities for your children to attend off site field trips. Having volunteers in the classroom is also very helpful. If you are able to Volunteer and have your Security clearance and all forms handed in to the School office, please let us know.
Having Volunteers for our classroom provides the students with other field trip opportunities as well. We hope to have an in-class Field Trip in May and go to the Zoo in June but we will have to make sure we have enough Volunteers before we can go ahead with those two opportunities. We also love to have Volunteers in our class to help out with a variety of things. If you would like to get the Volunteer forms started, please contact our school office.
We had one of Mrs. Nelson's friends who has their Security Clearance say that she could help us out for our Field Trip, which was so nice! But then, we had another two Volunteers let us know they could help out! Yea!!! The field trip is on!!!!
Please have your child dress appropriately for the weather tomorrow.

Yesterday we started working with our Artist in Resident, Mrs. Jennifer Stables! We are so excited to work with her. She brings such great artwork into our classroom and teachers not only the students but the teachers as well. Our next Art day is Monday April 10th. You will get to see our wonderful art on April 27th. It will be displayed at school during our Math and Art Showcase Evening!
Your child should have brought home a yellow field trip form. This field trip is for a Community Walk. We will be walking to Safeway to take a tour and discuss Healthy Living. Students could be receiving one or more of the following:
fruit, juice box, fruit rollup, cookies.
If your child has any serious food allergies that we are unaware of, please notify the school immediately!
Today we continued to work on our 3D Shapes in Math! This can be difficult work, but students are loving it! Some students even took some nets to work on at home. It's great to see students loving their learning and taking it home!

Lots of Info!!!!
We sent home a bunch of information today and yesterday! Please make sure you read through it all and send back the field trip form and let us know if you can volunteer!
We had our Student Teacher from the University of Calgary start with us this week. Her name is Ms. Chen. She will be with us until the end of April.
A few of us are still missing Library books from before Spring Break. Please look for the notice that should have come home today and take a look for the book! :)
We start our Art Residency tomorrow with Mrs. Jennifer Stables. We have been busy collecting materials. It's not too late! You can bring materials in too. If you have fresh flowers we will be able to dehydrate them in time for our second Art day on Monday.
Items we could use more of:
flowers (dry or fresh)
small shells
wheat
sage
leaves (all colours: green, yellow, red, orange, but we do NOT need any more brown. We collected a bunch of those today!)
Thank you so much for helping us with this great Art Project. We can't wait to share it with you.

Free Wildflowers!
We will soon be learning about Needs of Plants and Animals! I found this great website to get free wildflower seeds! Unfortunately I cannot get enough packs for everyone, but you can click on the link and have them sent directly to you.
It is through Cheerios and it's a plea to help Save the Bees! 1 in 3 bites we eat is made possible by bees and other pollinators, who spread the pollen that crops need to grow. That includes many of our favourite foods like apples, almonds, coffee, and of course, honey!
Let's grow some flowers! Click the link and follow prompts to Get Seeds

Today we had Constable George Kovacs join our classroom to discuss tools we can use to help us in our lives. He told us all about the tools on his Police Uniform, but he said that they were not the most important tools he has. His eyes, ears, voice and heart are among our most valuable tools we can have and use.
After Spring Break we will discuss more about these tools and even make our own tool belt.
We had a discussion about Spring and talked about the different things we see:
What do people wear and do?
What do animals do?
What do plants and trees look like?
What is the weather like?
Some students were able to finish this while the other students went to Music. That class will work on and finish theirs tomorrow.
This afternoon we had Daily 5. We are getting fairly good at knowing exactly what to do and solving our own problems within our groups. This is something we continue to practice and work on.
We hope you have been able to sign up for Conferences. We will be happy to meet with you to discuss your child's progress and what we all can do to continue to help them.

This afternoon we did a Science Experiment! We used our sense of smell. We smelled 9 different containers and then chose from a few pictures to see if we were right. Not everyone has finished this yet, so we won't find out if we are right until Wednesday probably.
We will add this experiment to the board in our hallway for everyone to try at the Conferences this Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.
Tomorrow we have Constable George Kovacs coming to speak with us after recess. We are excited to hear what he has to say about being a police officer. After Spring Break we will have other community people coming into our classroom and we will even take a walk in our community. We will need Volunteers for that so keep your eyes open for a parent letter and volunteer form that will come home after Spring Break.

Leapin Lizards!!!
Those sneaky Leprechauns sure did leave a mess in our classroom. Yikes!!! It was a disaster. Our shoes were all over the place, pencil cases were on the opposite sides of the classrooms, desks and chairs were overturned.....it was crazy!!!! We even found some footprints from those sneaky ones! They left us a letter and a pot of temporary tattoos and lucky stickers! We were SO excited to explore those sneaky guys and what they did in our classrooms. Thank you to all parents who helped their child create super sneaky traps. We almost caught one, but they were too quick for us!
After our Pillars of Care Assembly the grade 1's participated in Makerspace! Mrs. Mesheau gave us some cups and craft sticks to build a tower. We explored how to do this and then we had to draw a design. Once we drew our design we received more cups and practiced building our towers. It was so much fun. So many students had such creative ideas. Once they were done with their groups tower, they got to join another group and build an even bigger tower! It was a great time!!!
The morning sure did go fast! It was over before we knew it!
We hope you have a wonderful weekend. See you on Monday!

Happy Tuesday
In Grade 1 Science we have been learning about our 5 Senses. We did that awesome Popcorn activity last month. We will soon be getting lots of books from the Public Library about the 5 Senses and we will start LOTS of experiments. Some will involve tasting, smelling, touching, seeing and listening. If any parents have any possible concerns with these experiments please let us know as soon as possible. We generally taste, sugars, salt, sour and bitter and we will smell loads of different things. We of course know about all allergies in our classroom and will keep those in mind for the experiments.
We have been discussing "Little Deal and Big Deal" in class every day after lunch. We continue to add items on to the list and today we added different solutions for different "deals". We also make sure to ask students if it's a BIG or little deal when they are telling us something. Tattling made the list as a little deal. But if your arm is broken or you're bleeding LOTS that is a VERY BIG DEAL!!!! :) We hope the students will be able to handle smaller problems on their own and come to teachers with big problems or if they need help with different ideas or solutions.
Swimming Report Cards came home today! We have a bunch of great swimmers!

In PE today we continued to work on skipping. I hope you have all registered online for your free skipping rope with Jump Rope for Heart. We also started learning how to jump using 1 big long rope with two people turning it. Students will each get a turn by the end of the week. Once they are good at turning the rope they will be able to work in groups of 3 to use the long rope together.
We are continuing to work on our Morning Message mistakes. Having students find mistakes in writing is a great strategy to help their own printing and spelling. Practicing this at home will enhance your child's writing of sentences.
This afternoon we had a financial presentation. We learned about saving, spending and making money. It was lots of fun. We got to look at fake money, but it looked real.

What a snowy day!
Your children are bringing home their 100 Day Activities! Some students didn't finish all of them, but if they finish them at home and bring it back next week, we will give them their certificate and stickers!
Remember to send gloves and hats during the winter. Some kids were left without gloves today and it was super snowy and pretty chilly. We have some on hand, but if they don't check with us before going out their little hands get cold. (Maybe I'll start taking some out in my Supervision vest...good idea!)
We had a spontaneous assembly this morning. We talked about our Pillars of Care and how we can show that before school, recess, lunch and after school. We discussed how students are supposed to check in with their parents before playing on the playground or hills after school to ensure their safety.
We started to watch a live feed of a giraffe being born at a Zoo in Harpursville, New York. We didn't see anything happen, but if you would like to watch with your child this weekend the link is:

The link keeps renewing so just look for the Live Animal Adventure Park Giraffe Cam
We continued to play badminton in PE today. We will be finishing this unit up next week. It has been wonderful to see students achieve their goals of hitting the birdie more and more each time.
Important Dates:
February
28th - Jump Rope for Heart Kick-off Assembly) Time to be determined
March
6th - Financial Presentation to all Grade 1's
20th - Spring Begins
23rd and 24th - Teacher Professional days - No School
March 27-31 - Spring Break

3rd - Students Return

A whirlwind week....
We have been doing so many things this week. We apologize for the lack of blogs, we will get better at this.
We celebrated the 100th Day of School on Tuesday!!!!! Woohoo!!! We are still working on lots of Math and Literacy activities that go along with the 100th Day of School!
We also celebrated Pink Shirt Day. We talked a lot about Bullying and why it isn't good. Last week we discussed with the students how Pink Shirt Day began. A few students saw a boy being bullied because he was wearing a pink shirt. These students went out and bought a bunch of pink tank tops and distributed them at school the next day. The boy being bullied was so touched by their gesture. Ever since then we have Pink Shirt Day on February 22nd.
Today we sent home an important notice about Lice. A student or two in our classrooms found out that they had some of these little critters. Please check your child's hair.
We also sent home Scholastic Orders.

Wear Pink, Red or Purple!!!!
We will be celebrating Valentines Day tomorrow! If you would like to give cards out, please ensure you have 1 for each child in your class. Some children had time to write down their classes names. If they were unable to write down names, here is a sneaky way to get them. Go to the link below:
https://www.kidsa-z.com/main/Login
login in to your child's teacher and all the names will appear!
Mrs. Nelson's login is mnelson4 (*note the last 2 students are not in our class)
Mrs. G's login is agrunert
Swimming is going wonderful! 2 more days of that.
Remember to bring in your Library book for our time on Wednesday.
No School Thursday or Friday
Wear Pink Red or Purple to celebrate St. Valentines Day
We will Celebrate 100 School Days on Wednesday!
Friday, February 10, 2017
We had a few sleepy students today. Swimming is starting to wear us out. After swimming we did a Science Lesson with Mrs. Nelson about the 5 Senses and Swimming! Ask your child for an example from each sense.
Next week is Valentine's Day AND 100th Day of School!
We will do so much celebrating! We ask that no treats are sent in for these celebrating days. Thank you!
If you would like to hand out Valentines to the class that is more than welcome, however, we do ask that you give 1 Valentine to each child in your child's class. (ie: if your child is in Mrs. Grunert's class, please have 24 Valentines to give to each student. If your child is in Mrs. Nelson's class, please have 26 Valentines to give out.)
We are unable to send home a class list, but your child is able to write names down beforehand or the morning of. You can also take a peek on Raz Kids (*note on Mrs. Nelson's Raz Kids the last 2 kids are not part of our class).
We look forward to celebrating these 2 special days with your child.
